25th World Cancer Day

In 1999, Professor David Khayat, Dr Gabriel Hortobagyi, Dr Peter Harper and a committee of internationally respected oncologists met in Paris to discuss a coordinated approach to fighting cancer. From this meeting, The World Summit Against Cancer was created as a global call to action against cancer. On the 4th of February 2000, oncologists, government officials, and other stakeholders from around the world attended the Summit. The Paris Charter Against Cancer was the result of their cumulative effort.

To commemorate this occasion, the 4th of February is now recognized as World Cancer Day.

“Je mènerai ce combat pour donner tort à la maladie. Pour l’empêcher de dévorer les corps tout autant que les âmes.”

“I will fight this fight to prove the disease wrong. To prevent it from devouring bodies as well as souls.”

Professor David Khayat

“The Charter was born out of a need to tell the world about the struggle against Cancer, and to address across all nations the inequalities in cancer care.”

Dr. Peter Harper
